Condition Requirement
Returned books must be in their original, unread condition. Books that show signs of reading, have broken spines, dog-eared pages, writing inside, or damage not present at time of purchase are not eligible for return. We reserve the right to assess condition at time of return.
Starting a Return
How to Return an Item
There are two ways to return a purchase: in store (the fastest and easiest option) or by mail.
Option 1 — Return In Store

Bring your item and proof of purchase
Your order confirmation email, packing slip, or receipt is required. Without proof of purchase, returns may only be approved for store credit at manager discretion and at the current selling price of the item.

Visit us during store hours
47 Doyle Street, Historic Toccoa — Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM. Any staff member can process your return.

Choose your refund method
Refund to original payment method or store credit — your choice. Store credit is issued immediately. Refunds to original payment may take 3–7 business days to appear.

Package your return carefully
Include your order number on a slip of paper inside the package. Wrap books to prevent damage in transit — we cannot accept returns of items damaged during the return shipment.

Ship using an insured, trackable method
The cost of return shipping is the customer's responsibility. We strongly recommend using a trackable, insured shipping method. We are not responsible for packages lost or damaged in return transit.

Mail to us
[ash-ling] Booksellers — Returns, 47 Doyle Street, Historic Toccoa, Georgia 30577. Please allow 3–5 business days for us to process your return after we receive it.
Return Shipping Cost
Customers are responsible for the cost of return shipping unless the return is due to our error (wrong item shipped, item damaged in outbound transit, or item materially different from its description). In those cases we will provide a prepaid return label. Shipping charges on the original order are non-refundable.
Something Went Wrong
Damaged, Missing, or Incorrect Orders
We package every order carefully, but occasionally things go wrong in transit or we make a mistake. If your order has a problem, please contact us within 7 days of delivery so we can resolve it quickly.

Wrong Item Sent
If we sent you the wrong book, email us a photo of what you received and your order number. We'll send the correct item at no charge and provide a prepaid return label for the wrong one.

Please photograph the damage and the packaging before opening fully, and contact us within 7 days. We'll work with you to replace the item or issue a refund depending on availability.

If an item is missing from your order, contact us within 7 days with your order number. We'll ship the missing item or refund it promptly.

Package Lost in Transit
If tracking shows your package as delivered but you haven't received it, wait 48 hours (sometimes carriers scan early), then contact us. We'll file a claim with the carrier and work toward a resolution, though Media Mail shipments are not insured.
Time Limit — Please Act Quickly
Problems with orders must be reported within 7 days of the delivery date shown in your tracking information. After 7 days we may be unable to file carrier claims or verify the condition at time of delivery. Please don't wait.
Getting Your Money Back
Refund Processing
Once we receive and inspect your return, we'll process your refund or store credit within 3–5 business days.
- Refund to original payment method — processed within 3–5 business days of receiving your return. It may take an additional 3–7 days to appear on your statement depending on your bank or card issuer.
- Store credit — issued immediately upon approval and can be used on your next purchase in store or online.
- Exchange — if you'd like a different title, we'll process your return and apply the value to your new order. Contact us to arrange an exchange.
Shipping charges are not refunded except in cases where the error was ours. If your order qualified for free shipping and the return brings your order total below the free shipping threshold, the original shipping cost may be deducted from your refund.
Purchased at the Store
In-Store Purchases
Purchases made in person at [ash-ling] Booksellers follow the same 30-day return policy for new books in unused condition with receipt. Please bring the item and your receipt to the store during business hours.
Without a receipt, a return may be approved for store credit at manager discretion, at the current selling price of the item. We ask for your understanding that we cannot always verify purchase price or date without proof of purchase.
Used books, artisan items, and sale items purchased in store are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
