Order Status Guide

Once you place an order you'll receive email updates at each stage. Here's what each status means and what to expect next.

Pending
We've received your order and it's in the queue. Payment is being verified. You'll hear from us within 1 business day if there are any issues.
Processing
Your payment has been confirmed and we're preparing your order. This typically takes 2–3 business days before shipping.
Shipped
Your order is on its way. You'll receive a separate email with tracking information if your shipping method includes tracking.
Complete
Your order has been delivered or picked up. If anything is wrong with your order, please contact us within 7 days.
On Hold
We need to reach you about your order — a payment issue, item availability, or a question. Check your email for a message from us.
Cancelled
This order has been cancelled. If you did not request the cancellation, please contact us immediately. Refunds process within 3–5 business days.

After You Place an Order

Here's the full journey from checkout to your hands — with approximate timeframes for each stage.

Order Confirmation Email
Sent immediately after checkout. Contains your Order ID, items ordered, shipping address, and payment summary. Save this email — you'll need the Order ID for guest lookups.

We prepare your order, confirm item availability, and package everything. If an item is backordered or unavailable we'll contact you by email with options.
2–3 Business Days
Pickup Ready Notification (if applicable)
If you selected In-Store Pickup, you'll receive an email when your order is ready. Please wait for this email before coming in — not all orders are ready on the same day.
1–3 Business Days
Shipping Confirmation & Tracking
Once your order ships, you'll receive an email with your carrier and tracking number (if applicable to your chosen shipping method). USPS Media Mail does not always include full tracking.
After Processing
Delivery
Delivery time depends on your shipping method. Media Mail: 7–14 business days. USPS First Class / Priority: 2–5 business days. See our Shipping Information page for full details.

If your order arrives damaged, incorrect, or incomplete, please contact us within 7 days of delivery so we can resolve it. After 7 days we may be unable to file carrier claims.

Pickup Order Details

Store pickup is free and available on all orders. Here's everything you need to know about collecting your order.

  • Wait for the ready email before coming in. Your order may take 1–3 business days to prepare — please don't come to the store before receiving the notification.
  • Bring your confirmation. Show your order confirmation email (on your phone is fine) or give your name at the counter.
  • Pickup window. Please collect your order within 14 days of receiving the ready notification. After 14 days, uncollected orders may be returned to stock and refunded. If you need more time, contact us.
  • Someone else picking up? That's fine — just let us know their name in your order notes, or contact us after placing the order.
  • Store hours. Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Extended hours during events.
Not Ready Yet? If you arrive and your order isn't ready, please call ahead next time — 706-886-2665. We do our best to have orders ready within the stated window but high volume periods may cause brief delays.

Changing or Cancelling an Order

Need to make a change after placing your order? Time is of the essence — once an order is packed and processed we may not be able to modify it.

  • Address corrections: Contact us immediately at email@ashlingbooksellers.com or call 706-886-2665. We can update a shipping address as long as the order hasn't shipped yet.
  • Adding or removing items: We can try to add or remove items if the order hasn't been packed yet. Contact us as soon as possible with your Order ID and the change you need.
  • Cancellations: Orders can be cancelled before they ship. Contact us immediately with your Order ID. Once an order has shipped, cancellation is not possible but you may return it per our Return & Refund Policy.
  • Pickup to shipping change: If you selected pickup but would like your order shipped instead, contact us before your pickup is ready and we'll adjust it.

The fastest way to request a change is to call us at 706-886-2665 during store hours. For non-urgent changes, email works fine.

Order FAQs

I didn't receive a confirmation email. What do I do? +
First, check your spam or junk mail folder — confirmation emails sometimes end up there. If it's not there, contact us at email@ashlingbooksellers.com with your name, the date you placed the order, and what you ordered. We can look it up and resend your confirmation.
My tracking shows delivered but I haven't received my package. +
This happens occasionally — carriers sometimes mark packages delivered before the final drop. Wait 24–48 hours and check with neighbors or your building's mailroom or front desk. If it still hasn't arrived after 48 hours, contact us with your order number and we'll file a carrier inquiry on your behalf.
I ordered multiple items. Will they ship together? +
We do our best to ship orders together in one package. However, if items come from different sources or if one item is backordered, your order may ship in multiple packages. You'll receive a separate tracking number for each shipment. If you selected "ship as available," you may receive partial shipments as items become ready.
How do I track my order if I chose Media Mail? +
USPS Media Mail does not always include full parcel tracking. If your confirmation email includes a tracking number, you can use it at usps.com. If no tracking number was provided, please allow the full delivery window (7–14 business days) before contacting us. If you need reliable tracking, we recommend choosing First Class or Priority Mail at checkout.
A book I ordered says it's backordered. What happens now? +
We'll contact you by email with an estimated availability date and ask whether you'd like to wait, substitute a different title, or cancel that item for a refund. Most backordered books arrive within 1–2 weeks. You'll never be charged for an item we can't fulfill.
Can I have my order gift-wrapped or include a note? +
We don't currently offer gift wrapping through the website, but you can add a note in the order comments field at checkout and we'll include it with the order on a handwritten card. For a more elaborate gift presentation, contact us directly and we'll do our best to accommodate.
I placed an order but haven't heard anything in several days. +
Orders are processed within 2–3 business days. If it's been more than 3 business days and you haven't received any updates, please check your spam folder first. If nothing is there, contact us at email@ashlingbooksellers.com with your name and order details.
Do you ship internationally? +
We currently ship within the United States only. If you're located outside the US and would like to place a special order, please contact us directly to discuss options — we may be able to accommodate international shipping for specific requests on a case-by-case basis.
